Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about credit checks, rates, timelines, and how working with a financing broker actually works.

Common questions

Before you apply

Does applying affect my credit score?

No. Our initial review uses a soft inquiry, which does not affect your score. If you move forward to final underwriting with a specific lender, we'll tell you before anything further happens.

What does “application only” actually mean?

For most deals under $250,000, the one-page application plus a soft credit pull is the entire package. No tax returns, no financial statements, no interim P&L. Above $250,000, lenders generally want financials, and the timeline extends accordingly.

Can you finance used equipment or a private-party sale?

Yes on used equipment, which makes up a large share of what we fund. Private-party sales are workable but need a few extra steps to verify the seller and the equipment, so budget a little more time than a dealer purchase.

What rate should I expect?

It depends on credit profile, time in business, equipment type, and term — quoting a single number before seeing your file would be guessing. Strong files with five-plus years and high-700s credit price competitively against bank equipment terms; we'll show you real numbers, not a teaser rate.

Do I have to have picked out the equipment already?

Practically, yes. We can approve you in advance so you know your budget walking into a negotiation, but funding requires a specific machine, a seller, and a price. If you're still deciding whether to buy at all, apply once that firms up.

How fast does funding actually happen?

Decisions typically come back within one business day on application-only files. From approval, funding speed mostly depends on how quickly documents get signed and the vendor invoice is verified — same-week funding is normal, and equipment deals with a quote in hand move fastest.

Who do you work with?

Established businesses across the United States — generally operating for 3+ years with a 625+ credit profile, seeking between $15,000 and $25 million+. Construction, transportation, agriculture, medical, manufacturing, and restaurants make up much of what we fund, but the model works for most equipment-heavy industries.

Who is AB Funding?

We're an equipment finance company based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a member of the National Equipment Finance Association. We place transactions with a panel of funding sources that includes companies named to Monitor's 2026 Monitor Best list, which lets us match a file to the lender most likely to approve it on the best terms rather than pushing every deal through one box.
